Deputy shoots suspected burglar near College Park
An Orange County sheriff’s deputy shot a suspected burglar Thursday outside of a home north of College Park.
Deputies said they were called to investigate reports of a burglary in progress on Beatrice Avenue around 11 a.m.
Deputies arrived at the home and found a white Lexus backed into the driveway. Deputies said that as they were ordering the occupants to get out of the car, another suspected burglar fled from the back of the home.
The driver gunned the vehicle directly at the deputy, who fired at the driver, authorities said.
The deputy was not injured.
The driver fled the area, but the vehicle was spotted by a deputy on Edgewater Drive. The driver pulled over on Yale Street, and two suspected burglars jumped out of the car and ran.
One of the two suspected burglars, an 18-year-old man, was found hiding beside a home on Yale Street.
Video from Chopper 2 captured police taking the man into custody shortly after 11: 30 a.m.
The man taken into custody had been shot by a deputy, authorities said.
The car involved is a white Lexus that authorities said was reported stolen out of out of Belle Isle. WESH 2 News crews spotted bullet holes in the vehicle.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy shooting.
Edgewater High School, College Park Middle School, Princeton, Lake Silver and Lake Weston elementary schools were placed on lockdown due to the police activity. All lockdowns were lifted around 1:45 p.m.
